The children this week have been practicing working on there fine motor skills through transferring with the pasta and tongs and developing there independence with pouring from jug to jug.

Gong Hei Fat Choi !!!! – Happy Chinese New Year – Year of the Rooster !

We had a Chinese restaurant in the home corner and the children played with rice and noodles with chopsticks. They served their friends and practiced how to use chopsticks. The children made money envelopes to take home, and snack on Friday 27th Jan was prawn crackers with sweet and sour sauce, which the children really enjoyed. We also looked at how Chinese letters are different from English letters.

Over the past few months at downham we have been thoroughly enjoying some visits from some rabbits, watching them grow from 1 week old to 12 weeks old. The children fed them with a bottle, held them, played with them, and we reluctantly said goodbye to them last week as they were going to new homes. As well as naming the rabbits we joined in all sorts of relevant activities. We read books about rabbits, made rabbit pictures and rabbit ears headbands, all in small groups. The children were intrigued watching them grow from visit to visit and asked many questions They wanted to know where they lived and what they ate and if they could jump !!

2018 – First week back is week commencing 08th January 2018

Now that we are starting to head into our Christmas theme, the children have helped paint a Snowman and a Reindeer for our end of term show and we will be sharing a minced pie with our parents afterwards. We are also holding a Party at the end of term alongside Christmas jumper day.

Also, we recently had a trip to the park to collect leaves and we spent some of the following week making leaf art in various forms such as, leaf rubbings and making a cardboard tree and sticking the leaves and cones that we collected onto it.

Our Chislehurst nursery is excited to announce they have a new allotment area of raised beds for growing fruit, vegetables and herbs, some of which will make it into the lunch recipes when ready to harvest. We have been transplanting our herbs into our ” moon bed ” and our strawberries into our ” red triangle” bed.

The children have been planting seeds and learning about how our plants grow big and strong. Even though the weather has been a challenge we have been out enjoying our garden and learning about nature.

We welcome any help that our parents can offer. Please come and dig or offer your growing expertise.

We would appreciate donations of vegetable plants if you have any spare or just come and enjoy our new growing space.

One of our nurses summed it up nicely…“I’m a Nursery Nurse and have been so for many years so I can give you a really good idea. You have to really like children and have a lot of energy because they can tire you out. You need to be a team player and cooperate with the people you work with. Communication skills are key as you need to talk to parents, children, staff and other professionals. The ability to learn new things quickly helps. Being creative is important, by this I don’t mean being good at art (which can help) but being able to come up with activities to challenge and develop the children you are working with. A good understanding of child development is an ongoing learning process. Being patient is really important as well and staying in complete control when under pressure.”

Our team at our nursery on Imperial Way, Chislehurst is pleased to announce  we  have recently refurbished our baby unit and invested in new equipment to create a calm home from home area. We have also made improvements outside in our baby and toddler private patio, creating an enchanted garden full of sensory play activities, and installed a new mud kitchen café house.

Congratulations to the team at our Montessori Pre-school,  St Marys Church Hall, Chislehurst, for being awarded from the Bromley Outreach and Inclusion Team a Certificate for Partnership Working as part of the Specialist Outreach Teaching Intervention, showing great enthusiasm, commitment and a sense of humour that has enabled you to make a difference. Well done we are so proud of you.

A recent questionnaire response from one of our parents.

We attended the open day this morning and I would just like to say a big thank you to Claire and the team for making me and especially Charley feel welcome.

We had been to see another nursery but the reception we received there was nothing like we experienced today. In the end it was Charley who made the decision for us as we hardly saw her once we was there as She was too busy outside playing and painting when she wouldn’t leave my side at the other one.

I have completed all the paperwork and will be returning it to Claire tomorrow morning so that we can get the ball rolling with her enrolment.

Once again I cannot thank Claire and the team enough for making this hard decision so easy and just know that Charley will love it and thrive under their supervision and care.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and will be keeping my fingers crossed that you have availability.

    Hello to all the team!

I’ve come home from Akiras first parents evening and wanted you to know how she is doing. Yet again they asked what pre school she want to as they praised you again. Akira is in the top set for her phonics. She has settled in really well. Enjoys the role play area and doing number work. She can often be found at the writing table doing independent writing of her letters.

I can’t thank you enough for providing such an amazing platform for her – she is excelling at school and it’s thanks to you all. She misses you all and speaks of you all fondly.

    Many Thanks as always

    regards
    Claire
