At Winlaton, the children enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree and choosing what colourful ornaments they wanted to hang on the tree! The children did good turn taking and were very proud of their work. The children discussed what their own Christmas trees look like at home, using words, such as “Tall” and “Sparkly”.

We’ve also done some beautiful Christmas artwork, which was focused on snowman!

At St Mary’s, we enjoyed celebrating ‘Christmas Jumper Day’, wearing our favourite Christmas jumpers to nursery and we created our own colourful and sparkly Christmas jumpers at the art table! We had so much fun!

Christmas has arrived at Nightingale! This week we started doing some Christmas themed activities, including counting Pom poms and matching them to the correct number on the tree. We also did some imaginative play, whilst role playing with our Winter Wonderland small world toys and we made a beautiful piece of artwork, mark making on a Christmas tree!

At St Mary’s, we have a visitor… he’s back…Elf on the shelf has arrived! He came with a letter for the children! We voted to name him Elf Jingle Belle, which the children thought was very funny. Jingle Belle has been up to lots of mischief already and has promised that there is more to come! This morning, all the baubles were missing and our Christmas tree was decorated with toilet paper!

In todays Forest School session at Imperial, we did lots of mark making, which the children are loving at the moment! We used water and paint brushes to mark make on the gates. We also used pieces of cardboard from delivery boxes we had, drawing on them using paint sticks and pens to make beautiful pictures!

There was also a lot of imaginative play in today’s session, which included going on adventures and ‘cooking’ rather odd things in the mud kitchen!

At St Mary’s, a small group of us went on a lovely walk in our local community. We visited the pond and fed the ducks and geese, which not all of us liked! The greedy pigeons kept trying to eat all the seeds that we took to feed the animals. Some of us were brave and let the geese feed from our hands.

We then went on a bear hunt and found one outside the library, which we all gave a hug to! On the way back to nursery, we spoke about the different shops in our high street. As we passed the clothes shop, we saw two dogs in the shop window. The kind shop owner invited us into her shop to meet her dogs! We were very gentle as we petted the dogs.

What an amazing afternoon!

To raise money for Children in Need, Valeswood had a PJ day for the children and staff! The children created a Pudsey collage, which we displayed for our parents to see. We also made our own Pudsey ears, iced biscuits and had fun playing with porridge for ‘The Three Little Bears’. Thank you to all of our generous parents who donated to the amazing charity!

We celebrated and fundraised for Children in Need at Imperial all week!

Monday- Yellow Day! We invited everyone to come dressed in yellow and take part in lots of crafts.

Tuesday- Pyjama Day! Everyone came to nursery in their Pyjamas and we had a teddy bears picnic.

Wednesday- Bake Sale! We spent the day baking delicious treats to sell at our bake sale that night to fundraise money.

Thursday- Fancy Dress! We invited the children to come to nursery dressed up in their favourite fancy dress- and the teachers did too!

Friday- Coffee Morning! Our parents were able to grab a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate on the way to work!

What a fun and successful week at Imperial!

At St Mary’s, our current favourite book is ‘Room on the Broom’. We read it almost daily and often role play the story. On World Animal Day, we decided to link the two together, so we made frog puppets, which were inspired by the frog in ‘Room on the Broom’. The children experimented using their fine motor skills and creativity to paint and make amazing frog faces!

At Imperial, on Remembrance Day, the Toddlers decorated some beautiful poppy pictures and explored different materials and textures whilst doing so. We focused a lot on the colour red, pointing out objects that we could see that are red in the room, using just red blocks to build and exploring red craft materials.

Lest We Forget

At St Mary’s, we each made a small poppy with tissue paper, and we also made a bigger wreath to display on our door to pay respect. We also made our own poppy biscuits to take home with us. We admired the Soldier’s uniform in the charity shop window on our afternoon walk, discussing what it looked like and who wears them.

Lest We Forget

At Imperial, we celebrated Guy Fawkes Night by taking part in lots of firework crafts to take home with us! The children made firework patterns by using toilet roll tubes dipped in paint. They also made rockets, using paper, stickers, tissue paper and pens. The children helped to construct them and decorate them. Our final project was an experiment to see how high we could drop  a pom-pom. The children dropped the pom-pom covered in paint, communicating if there was a ‘big splash’ or a ‘little splash’. We had lots of fun!
